The different meaning of Mother's Day

May 10, 2016

Mother's Day has taken on a different meaning for me ever since I met Gloria* a few years ago.

I was sidewalk counseling in the alley behind Routh Street abortion facility, when a car drove in. Gloria was headed to her appointment at Routh, but the Holy Spirit interceded, and she stopped to talk to me. The more Gloria spoke, the more upset she got. I could tell that she didn’t really want the abortion, and I suggested she pull into a parking space at the neighboring pregnancy resource center. And she did!

She got out of the car and hugged me, crying and shaking. As we went up the stairs to the resource center, she told me that her husband didn’t know she was pregnant -- she was just going to have the abortion and not tell him. I sat with her in the waiting room, and she showed me pictures of her children, a boy and a girl.

We hugged and cried some more before she was taken to the back for her sonogram, both of us just so grateful that God had touched her heart.

She sent me a message later to say thanks and to tell me her baby was due around Mother’s Day. Thank you, Lord, for such a beautiful gift!
