From Bishop Burns

Bishop Edward Burns Diocese of Dallas

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As Catholics, it is our fundamental moral responsibility to uphold the sacredness of human life.  Here in the Diocese of Dallas, we are blessed with a Respect Life Ministry devoted to this mission – the Catholic Pro-Life Community.

For more than two decades, the Catholic Pro-Life Community has served our diocese by providing critical, supportive services for pregnant mothers and their children; facilitating merciful healing for women and men who have lost a child to abortion; as well as educating and mobilizing thousands of youth and adults to defend the sanctity of life from conception until natural death.

This mission and ministry represent that “decisive and unreserved ‘yes’ to life” that Pope Francis urges in response to the “throwaway culture” which surrounds us.  In a culture that all too often categorizes people as “unnecessary,” it is incumbent on us, as a people of Christ, to embrace the dignity of each person and help ensure that dignity is protected and respected.

At my inaugural Bishop’s Pro-Life Dinner, I saw firsthand the incredibly vibrant community in our diocese answering “yes” to this call.  If you are among those who are already participating in or supporting the ministries of the Catholic Pro-Life Community, I am most grateful for your commitment and pray for your continued devotion to this critical mission.  If the Catholic Pro-Life Community is new to you, then I invite you to visit www.prolifedallas.org to learn more about how you can be a part of what St. John Paul II described as the “most important work on earth.”

Christ came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).  Together, let us pray for, serve and celebrate this beautiful gift.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Edward J. Burns
Bishop of Dallas
