Supreme Court Justice Stepping Down, Confirmation Battle Coming Soon
April 9, 2010
From The Liberty Institute (www.libertyinstitute.org):
Today, U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens announced that he will retire from the bench after the Court finishes its term in June. Stevens, who will turn 90 in less than two weeks, was one of the most liberal Justices on the Court, and with President Obama in office, he'll likely be replaced with someone just as liberal. A few of the leading candidates for this open seat are U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan, the former dean of Harvard Law School who argued the Mojave Desert War Memorial case before the Court, and Diane Wood, a judge who ruled against Christianity on more than one occasion. As this battle brews, we will keep you informed on the process and how you can get involved.
