Motherhood in God's Economy

July 2, 2010

In God's economy, we may discover that the really BIG differences everyone made in building a Culture of Life are all of the "little" actions, "little" prayers, "little" sacrifices, and "little" acts of kindnesses during the normal course of each day -- which make big differences in other people's lives.

A friend (pregnant and married at 18) complained after a sleepless night to her father about having to change diapers, continually wiping a runny nose, wearing vomit stained clothing (while all of her friends were off frolicking away at college) and her father said to her:

"No one will probably applaud you for what you are doing. No one will probably ever say, ' Boy, you sure do keep that baby's bottom clean! ' or 'Wow! you sure do a nice job of scrubbing that kitchen floor!' but, Sweetheart, God knows you are doing the most important job in the world: Being a mother, and that's all that matters. Being a mother is the most heroic thing a woman can do."

My heroes are mothers and fathers.... building families... teaching their children to love, trust, and follow Jesus Christ in the midst of changing diapers, wiping runny noses, and wearing vomit stained clothing.

May God continue to bless you and may our Blessed Mother continue to intercede for each of you.
