Sometimes being out here makes my heart hurt

August 7, 2017

“Sometimes being out here makes my heart hurt so bad,” she said, “but we have to keep praying because nothing is beyond God.”

That counselor had just talked with Tammy*, giving her information and a little fetal model.  Tammy* isn’t sure what she’s going to do.  With two sons, one 7 years old and the other a 1 year old, she’s also had an abortion before.  About ten weeks along, she’s worried about having this baby, and about being a single mom and a college student.  She doesn’t want to get caught up in the system.  She’s feeling incredibly alone, especially since her husband died from a gunshot wound not too long ago.

“I’ve already given them money for my sonogram,” she said.

“That’s okay.  You can get your money back and get a sonogram for free at the pregnancy resource center.”

She told the counselor that she was going to have to pray and think about what she was going to do, usually a good sign.  She was going to McDonald’s to pick up breakfast and kindly asked if the counselors wanted anything.  While she was gone, prayer partners on the sidewalk were asked to pray for her, and texts went out to other warriors to please stop and pray.

A little while later, Tammy drove back into the lot and waved to the counselors.  Was she coming back for the sonogram at the nearby pregnancy resource center or to get a refund from the abortion facility?  The counselors prayed that if she got the sonogram, she would hear the heartbeat, see the picture and know and love this baby.

It’s hard to imagine, no matter the circumstances in her life, that she would get rid of this little image of someone she had loved.  At the end of the day, we don’t know what she chose, and we may never know.

Sometimes being out here makes our hearts hurt so bad.  But in saying yes to God’s will, we pray that He uses us to save His children, unborn and born.  To have her hold and love her son, kissing away his tears, is worth anything we endure.
