Convert-to-Life / Sidewalk Counseling

The three remaining abortion facilities in Dallas (down from thirteen in 1990), where an estimated 20 babies die each day, are places of unspeakable violence and sorrow. Christians are called to be present there, as Mary and the apostle John stood at Calvary. Like them, we must bravely face the suffering of the innocent.

The Convert-to-Life / Sidewalk Counseling Ministry of the Catholic Pro-Life Community is present to women and men in two ways: prayer and sidewalk counseling. Sidewalk counselors, including those from the Summer Intern Program, are trained both to offer alternatives lovingly to women and men coming to the facilities and to provide referrals for post-abortion healing to those leaving. Over 15 counselors ensure an almost-daily presence at the centers. Since its beginning in 1997, the Convert-to-Life Ministry has helped more than 10,000 mothers choose life for their babies, and six abortion centers have closed.

We are not responsible for these ‘saves,’ we are merely instruments of God’s grace. His compassion is what converts hearts and saves precious lives. We are just blessed to stand in the gap to offer His hope to the hopeless.”  - LifeSiteNews article on record number of women who chose life outside Dallas abortion facilities after being counseled by CPLC sidewalk counselors

Prayer events, which offer critical support to the sidewalk counselors, include the Roe Memorial Rosaries outside the Southwestern and Planned Parenthood South abortion facilities, a quarterly Mass and Rosary Procession to an abortion facility, participation in the fall 40 Days for Life campaign, and Eucharistic Adoration. Each parish is asked to pray and fast for the conversion of a particular abortion facility, its staff, and all who go there. Team Leaders organize prayer support from individuals who pray at the facilities and elsewhere. For more information about the Convert-to-Life Ministry, please contact the Ministry Director at .

Every pro-life ministry is essential to convert the culture. Education, legislation, and supportive services each have a critical function. But Convert-to-Life is truly the front lines of the battle for life because it engages in the most urgent opportunity we have to help a mother and save her child. Hear about these front-line, life-saving experiences in our sidewalk counselors' own words in "Stories from the Street." Witness the inspiration of this ministry through the music and words of local musician Stephen Ward in his song "Advocate." logo1a.png
