81st Texas Legislative Session

Flag_Capital.gif

The 81st Texas Legislative Session begins on Tuesday, January 19th, 2009 and ends on Monday, June 1st, 2009.

The Catholic Pro-Life Committee will be making the effort to ensure that pro-life legislation is passed this year.  Despite valiant efforts from pro-life and pro-family groups in Texas, no pro-life bills, with the exception of some funding for adult stem-cell research, were passed in the last legislative session in 2007.

The Texas Legislature only meets every other year on the odd-numbered years from January to June.  So there is only a short period of t ime in which to introduce and pass bills.

The Legislature will not meet again until January 2011.
